When About.com's Figure Skating Guide, JO ANN Schneider Farris, taught figure skating at Ice Capades Chalets in the 1980s, ice skating coaches had to put in ON ICE hours and OFF ICE hours. She noticed that the words OFF and ICE spelled OFFICE, so she came up with the following concept:

"Once, long ago, everyone in the world ice skated. In fact, everyone worked ON the ice. Then, someone came up with the idea of working OFF the ice. A new word was then formed by combining the words OFF and ICE. That is where the word OFFICE comes from. This is why the majority of people in the world don't ice skate and work in OFFICES." - Concept Copyright © by Jo Ann Schneider Farris

Actually, it is a shame that most people in this world don't take the time to experience the joy of ice skating. Everyone should get out of their offices and give figure skating a try. Skating provides joy, challenges, and happiness!
