Question: Whatever Happened to Barbie Smith?

Many people in the ice skating world wonder whatever happened to Barbie Smith?

Answer: Barbie Smith qualified for the World Figure Skating Championships in 1977, but did not qualify for the 1976 Winter Olympics.

Smith did show much promise and had a successful competitive skating career. She was the 1975 U.S. National Junior Ladies figure skating champion. She was also the silver medalist at the 1977 U.S. National Figure Skating Championships in the Championships Ladies division.

At the 1977 World Figure Skating Championships, she attempted two triple jumps, but landed only one. She placed 4th at that event, and retired from competitive skating shortly after that competition.

Barbie Smith was considered one of the most talented figure skaters in history. It is known that she performed with the Ice Capades in the mid-1980s, but after that, she left figure skating, and just seemed to disappear.
