Definition: Skate America is one of the international figure skating competitions that is part of the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. The best figure skaters in the world are invited to compete in the event. The competition is hosted in the United States and is organized by the Interntional Skating Union and U.S. Figure Skating. Skate America usually takes place in October and is held in different cities in the United States. The entire Skate America event is shown on IceNetwork.com.
Examples: Winners of Skate America have included Olympic figure skating champions Scott Hamilton, Brian Boitano, and Kristi Yamuguchi. World and Olymmpic figure skaters such as Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, Kimmie Meissner, and Christopher Bowman have also won gold at Skate America.
