Definition: A scribe is an ice skating training aid. It is a large compass that was/is used for learning and practicing compulsory figures.
Also Known As: The scribe was sometimes called "The Perfect Circle Patch Marker."
Examples: Since compulsory figures are not required for figure skaters of today, it is very difficult to purchase a scribe. Scribes are becoming collectors items.

Skating inventor, Nick Perna, invented "The 8-Mate," a device where a black marker was attached to the pointed end of the scribe.
