National Showcase is a figure skating competition all about theatrical skating. The eighth annual competition took place from August 4th through 6th, 2011 in Ohio. This year, almost 300 skaters participated.
Some very creative skating is done at these competitions. Skaters of all ages enjoy dressing up in costumes and having fun on the ice.
I wish more opportunities like National Showcase were available. Figure skating shouldn't be all about landing triple jumps. Our sport has an artistic side. Figure skaters of all levels should consider taking part in showcase events.

I would love to see more grace in ice skating. Do we really need all those triple jumps?
