Do You Believe Figure Skating Is a Youth Sport?

This past week, I did some research. I discovered that ONLY twenty-one percent of US Figure Skating's regular membership are adults. I learned that although there may be many adult figure skaters, that figure skating's registered numbers say we ARE a "youth sport."
What are your thoughts? Do you believe figure skating should be classified as a youth sport?

I don’t beleive it is a youth sport, but agree that serious competitions other than ‘Adult’ classified competitions are directed for the youth, and are excelled by youth rather than adults. But hey, who are the coaches of all our great youth figure skaters? Adults. It all traces back to an adult anyways. : )
I used to think that Figure Skating was for the young but just started skating again after 34 years. I am 49 and back to competeing and enjoying every minute of it. It is a sport that is Mind, Body and Spirit. So although the young kids compete in all the big competitions. I think skating is definetly for all ages. As far as Figure Skating being a youth sport. It sure has made me feel young again.
I learn figure skating now and I started only when I was a lot older than most figure skaters because I had to move around alot. But, I do think that figure skating should not be classified as a youth sport. Even though I believe that if you start figure skating from a younger age you will be able to accomplish more than starting at an older age. But that’s just how i think and I’m speaking from experience.
it doesnt matter how young or old you are. anyone can learn to skate if they want to..just skate for the FUN of it
