Linda Kola Alexander - A Skating Teacher to Skating Teachers

Wednesday January 31, 2007
Linda Kola Alexander I remember my first day as an ice skating instructor. Since I was a very accomplished figure skater, the rink that hired me assumed I knew how to teach skating. For me, skating is like walking, so the rink figured I could "wing it" and said, "Jo Ann, go for it. Teach skating." That was it. There was no training. There was no guidance.

I would have liked to have had some instruction on how to teach skating on that day, but as the years have passed, I did learn how to teach skating and became quite accomplished at it. I do find that there are things I don't know and I work hard at continuing to become a better figure skating coach. I have turned to other coaches for help many times in my coaching career.

Are you interested in teaching ice skating? Did you know that some figure skating coaches specialize in training skaters on how to teach figure skating? Are you already a figure skating coach, but need help preparing for certification exams? Do you direct a skating program and need some assistance? Linda Kola Alexander specializes in all these areas and wants to help.
