From the article: 1961 U.S. World Figure Skating Team Photos
On February 15, 1961, a tragic plane crash killed all the members of the U.S. Figure Skating Team. Also, friends, family, judges, officials, and coaches were killed. The skaters were traveling to the World Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
Did any of the people who were killed affect your life? Maybe you did not not know the people who died, but perhaps they passed something to one of your figure skating coaches, who in turn, passed something on to you. Share your memories or thoughts. Share Your Thoughts
So much I didn't know
- I recently purchsed the DVD set of "Rise", a tribute to the 1961 US Figure Skating team and the television coverage of the 1061 US National championships. I had not realised, until I watched it, how many young lives were lost, and how many families had more than one loved one that they lost. My heart goes out to all of the families of all of the skaters, coaches, friends and relations that were on the flight. What a great loss for the United States and all of the world. Memories
- I wasn't (and am not) at all involved with skating. But I was twelve at the time and remember the news reports of the crash, including the "Life" magazine coverage. Looking back recently it initially seemed to have been a brief "blip" in the news; and, of course, much was eclipsed by the assassination of JFK on Novvember 22, 1963. But as I've revisited the disaster, with the renewed interest and reminders (I do recommended Nicols' "Frozen in Time") , much more has been recalled. It really was a major, and dark, event, even for those of us who weren't especially intersted in sports generally, or figure skating in particular. Today, as long-time fan of figure skating, beginning with the wonderful Peggy Fleming, and through the years coming to lovely and mesmerizing Michelle Kwan, I am moved to tears by the incomparable loss. I thank those who have produced the books and film: they are a great tribute to generation of important and inspiring individuals.

So. Calif Skaters and team members
- I was sorry that some if the skaters were not mentioned more ie. Dean McMinn President of Arctic Blades FSC California, Bill Kpp coach from Artic Blades FSc Calif. and more southern California skaters. We missed them and I still remember them.

It Still Does
- We had several members and Skaters from Arctic Blades on that flight and for days and weeks after ward it seemed that we all felt the need to continue to congregate at the rink being all together and sharing the same pain seemed somehow to help. As long asgo as it was, I still remember that day like it took place last week.

1961 PLANE CRASH OF FIGURE SKATERS
- Bradley Lord was my 2nd cousin, and I remember that terrible day.I was twelve years old and it was such A devastating event for family friends and the skating community.Bradley was my Grand Mothers brothers son. Every time I went to visit I would go to his bed room where all his memorabilia, awards, medals etc. was always fascinating to look at. I am pleased they wrote a book and now a movie about it,long over due. Rest in peace Bradley, and my Aunt And Uncle, its comforting to know they are together and I am sure Bradley is skating with his parents cheering him on.

Skater not mentioned
- This brings back vivid memories. Roland Junso was teaching me lifts when this happened. However, I don't see his name mentioned or picture.
