From the article: "Innovate. Don't Imitate!" by Figure Skating Choreographer Lorna Brown
Figure skaters must do required step sequences in their competition programs. What changes should be made in the choreography of these footwork sequences? Share Your Thoughts
I agree with you...
- ...that footwork sometimes looks the same. Unfortunately we have same required steps to show off and if we just do that with finished edges there is not enough time or room to do it. What should be done to make it different? I think the way you extend your legs and arms and make accents, sharpness of movements, attention to the details is important, like where you had is turning, you sholders, expressions on your face. As an artist you have to feel the music to become as "one" with it. Steps need to be connected as one also flow one from another and not look like just separate steps.

Right on!
- Now, does anyone want to tackle laces that are hanging out and flopping about? Sometimes it so distracts me that I can barely watch the skater(s) or the choreography!

Problem
- I attended a Professional Skaters Association meeting on the IJS judging system. The problem is the technical specialists only give levels for good turns that look like the ones we did when we did figures. The skaters have to do similar step sequences just to win competitions..

I agree
- I agree. I'm getting tired of just seeing rockers and counters that look like figures in ice skating step sequences.
