Eastern Sectional Figure Skating Champion:
Kylie Gleason is the 2007 Eastern Ladies Figure Skating Champion. Winning that title is a step in possibly making the United States World and Olympic figure skating team.
Date, Place of Birth, and Hometown:
Kylie Gleason was born on April 13, 1990 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her hometown is Sewickley, Pennsylvania, but Kylie considers Boston home. The family moved from Boston to Sewickley in 1995.
Education and Honors:
Kylie Gleason is a full time honor student at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts. She was one of the skaters selected in 2006 for the State Farm Scholastic Honors Team.
Community Service:
Noble and Greenough School requires community service hours from its students, so in 2006, Kylie worked in an orphanage in Romania for two weeks.
Coaches and Training:
Kylie trains at The Skating Club of Boston under Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson.
How Kylie Began Skating:
Kylie writes:- "My mom, Suna Murray, put me on the ice for the first time when I was two
years old. It was her passion, and soon
became mine. By the time I was five I was skating four or five times a
week."
How Kylie Became Serious About Figure Skating:
Kylie writes:- "There was never a defining moment in my life when skating became for than
just a hobby. It was always a part of me; I can't remember a time when I
didn't skate. My love for skating as a child grew into a competitive
spirit over time."
Family:
Kylie's mother, Suna Murray, competed in figure skating in ladies singles at the 1972 Winter Olympics. Suna won the bronze medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1971 and 1972. Her mother also coaches skating at The Skating Club of Boston.
Suna lives in Boston during the week, but travels to their hometown of Sewickley, Pennsylvania on the weekends.
Kylie and Suna are the only figure skaters in their family. The rest of the family plays hockey.
Competitive Highlights:
Kylie was the National Juvenile Pair Champion in 2002 and Intermediate Pair Champion in 2003. In 2006, she won New England Junior Ladies. In 2007, she placed second at the New England Regional Championships. Winning Easterns in the Senior Ladies event puts Kylie in the figure skating limelight. Olympic dreams can possibly become a reality after a skaters wins Easterns.

- "I love Michelle Kwan. Although she's not competing anymore, I have so
much respect for her. She was always a perfect lady and never failed to
inspire me on the ice."
Favorite Music for Skating:
Kylie usually skates to classical music.Talents and Hobbies:

- "School and skating keep me very busy but I am also a part of the Community
Service Board and Aids Action Committee at my school. I volunteer at
Tufts New England Medical Center during the summer and in my other free
time I like to hang out with my friends. I've always been athletic and pretty talented when it comes to sports.
I've tried many, but I stuck with skating."

Kylie's Training Schedule:
Kylie trains sixteen to seventeen hours per week on the ice and four to five hours per week off the ice.Goals and Dreams:
Kylie writes:- "In 2007 I'm hoping to place top ten at the U.S. National Championships
and then I'll see where skating takes me. I want to go to a great college
when I graduate from Nobles in 2008 and from there go on to have a
successful career, although I'm not sure what I want to be yet.
I also made the 2007 United States Figure Skating Scholastic Honors team, which will be presented at the National Championships."
