At least four versions of the Nutcracker on Ice have been produced. The most well-known are:- The Nutcracker: A Fantasy On Ice (1983) - Starring Dorothy Hamill and Robin Cousins
- Nutcracker on Ice (1994) - Starring Oksana Baiul as Clara and Viktor Petrenko as Drosselmeyer
- Nutcracker on Ice (1995) - Starring Peggy Fleming as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Nicole Bobek as Clara, and Todd Eldredge as the Nutcracker
- Nutcracker on Ice (1998) - Starring Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner, and Linda Fratianne (as the Snow Queen)
Music:
Tchaikovsky's original music is presented in the Nutcracker ice ballet.1983's The Nutcracker: a Fantasy on Ice, was a television adaptation for HBO. In that version Tchaikovsky's score was reordered; also, music from other ballets was inserted.
Stage:
In the 1994 production with Oksana Baiul and Viktor Petrenko, the production is on a full size ice rink. The video is a taped production of a live show. The show was originally shown on NBC; later the show was broadcast on cable. The show was reduced to one hour which altered much of the music and the story.The other productions were produced on stage. The 1998 production with Babilonia and Gardner was filmed at the Auditorio Nacional Theatre in Chapultepec Park, Mexico City.
