Guide Review - Review of 2008's "Smucker's Stars on Ice: Live and in Color"

Each year, the best figure skaters in the world are selected to be part of Stars on Ice. The cast that appeared in Denver in 2008 included Olympic Silver Medalist Sasha Cohen, Olympic Champion Ilia Kulik, World Champion Todd Eldredge, World Pair Champions Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao, World Champion Yuka Sato, World Silver Dance Medalists Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon, World Bronze Medalist Michael Weiss, World Pair Bronze Medalists Kyoko Ina and John Zimmerman, and five-Time Canadian Champion Jennifer Robinson.

The show consisted of two acts with a twenty minute intermission. In both acts, every skater performed individually, and also performed with the group. 2008 U.S. National Pair Champions Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker, were invited to be guest stars at the 2008 Denver performance.

Sasha Cohen was headlined as the star of the show. She performed solo numbers, and also stunned the audience with a piece called "Enchantment." In that number, she wore white ballet shoes, and showed her tremendous flexibility and acrobatic ability as three of the men in the show lifted, threw, and twisted her around the rink.

In both individual and group numbers, the skaters performed triple jumps, complicated footwork, lifts, and spins. Michael Weiss did his trademark moves: a back flip and a spread eagle on the heels of his Freedom blades. Shen & Zhao and McLaughlin & Brubaker did huge throw triple loops. There was an very entertaining group number called "Hard Steele is Back" where the entire cast wore wigs. They became rock stars and did athletic feats on the ice while skating with electric guitars.

It is obvious that the figure skating stars that appear in the show love showing off their talents. Anyone who enjoys watching figure skating will enjoy the show and will not be disappointed.
