The Bottom Line

Disney's Monsters, Inc. On Ice makes people happy. For a couple of hours, the audience gets just a bit of what it feels like to be at Disneyland or Walt Disney World.

This particular Disney On Ice production has very little figure skating in it, so those who want to see great skating should not attend this particular ice show.

Some of the other Disney On Ice productions include more figure skating. It looks like the days of the old Ice Follies variety skating shows have ended. Audiences want to be entertained. Those who want to see great figure skating attend Champions on Ice, not Disney On Ice.

Guide Review - Review of Disney's Monsters, Inc. On Ice

Disney On Ice shows make people happy, and those who attend Disney's Monsters, Inc. On Ice will laugh and smile.

Almost all the characters in this production wear heavy costumes, so there is very little elaborate figure skating moves, jumps, or spins in this particular Disney On Ice production. Those who go to this show should not attend if they wish to see great figure skating, since the focus of the production is on entertainment, rather than skating.

The show does follow a storyline that is quite similar to the Disney movie, Monsters Inc., but there are some differences in the ice show. Also, there is music in the ice show that is not included in the movie.

The story is about James P. Sullivan (AKA "Sulley") the No. 1 scream-generating monster who accidentally lets in a little girl into the monster world. The monsters are terrified of children.

Sulley and his monster friend Mike Wazowski discover that the child they let into the monster world is harmless. They name her "Boo." They hide her from the Child Detection Agency (CDA). CDA's members, in yellow ventilated protected suits, do a very cute group precision skating number in the show.

Sulley and Mike protect Boo and eventually get her back to her bedroom. Sulley and Mike become heroes at the end of the show.

There is one scene in the second half of the show that has some good skating. Two male skaters skate with a female skater. Together, the three do gymnastic type lifts and athletic pair skating moves. There are also some female skaters doing synchronized skating in a "Winter Wonderland" type number that seems very similar to a Hollywood musical.

This show is really traveling Disney entertainment. There is little skating, but is still fun, especially for young audiences.
