David and Irene Diamond Are Not Competitive Figure Skaters

Irene and David Skate For Fun:

David writes:

"Although we train as if we were competitors, we don’t aspire to competition. We skate for enjoyment, for exercise, for a sense of personal satisfaction, and as a creative outlet. We enjoy American Roller Dancing, which is dancing to set patterns, and we also enjoy doing our own free-dance choreographies and performing exhibitions. Skaters who compete tend to focus on the specific dances that will be used in the competition, often to the exclusion of everything else. There is nothing wrong with that; it is just that we prefer our own ways of enjoying artistic skating, instead. Additionally, we started skating later in life, and we have neither the strength nor the risk-tolerance to include lifts in our programs. Recreational free-dance skaters do not have to worry about required elements."
