Grandma, Physician, and Adult Figure Skater Marci Richards:

Dr. Marci Richards is not only a physician, but she is a grandmother and a serious adult figure skater.

Skating Begins After Age Fifty:

Marci began skating in 1997. She was fifty-two years old at the time.

Date of Birth:

Marci Richards was born on September 14, 1945.

Home:

Dr. Richards calls Elm Grove, Wisconsin home. She also considers Salt Lake City, Utah her second home. She skates and skis in Utah. She comes to Salt Lake City eight to ten times each year to skate, to ski, and to visit family.

Family:

Marci's daughter and grandson live in Utah.

About Marci's Skating:

Marci Richards has competed in the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 U.S. Adult Championships. She missed 2007 due to injury, but volunteered her time even though she was on crutches.

Marci can do all the single jumps through a lutz and can do sit spins and camel spins. She is also on the U.S. Figure Skating Adult Committee.

Dr. Richards also is working on solo ice dance tests. Before competing in US Figure Skating events, she participated in ISI (Ice Skating Institute) competitions.

Home Skating Club:

Dr. Richards's home skating club is the Wisconsin Figure Skating Club.

Professional Life:

Dr. Marci Richards is a retired physician. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. Her specialty is Radiation Oncology. She was the head of a group of seventeen radiation oncologists in Wisconsin.

"Grandma Flower Sweeper":

At the 2008 U.S. National Junior Figure Skating Championships in Salt Lake City, Marci Richards was a designated flower sweeper. She picked up stuffed toys and flowers along with children.

Awards, Talents, Volunteer Work:

Dr. Richards has won silver medals at the U.S. Adult Championships in the Adult Bronze event and in Adult Interpretive. She plays the horn and attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Marci believes that figure skating is an artistic sport. She made he own kimono and performed the entire story of Madame Butterfly on the ice in an artistic interpretive program.

Richards volunteered with with the onsite medical team at the 2008 U.S. Nationals Junior Figure Skating Championships. She also volunteers as a ski patroller.
