U.S. Figure Skaters Predicted to Qualify for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics

Due to the new judging system for figure skating, there is no way anyone can really predict which U.S. figure skaters will qualify for the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, but certain figure skaters may qualify.

The Way Things Were:

Reigning United States figure skating champions are usually the favorites figure skaters predicted to win the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships that precedes an Olympics. The event also serves as our country's Olympic trials.

United States Figure Skating's New Dilemma:

The problem is that, this time around, past and present U.S. Figure Skating Champions, Olympic and world medalists, and World figure skating champions will be competing against one another. The are no "for sure" champions or medalists. The days when the U.S. Figure Skating Championships that led to the Olympics were predictable, are over. Surprises are definately in store.

Ladies Who May Qualify for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team:

• Sasha Cohen - 2006 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating Champion and 2006 Olympic Figure Skating Silver Medalist
• Alissa Czisny - 2009 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating Champion
• Rachael Flatt - 2008 and 2009 U.S. Ladies Silver Medalist and 5th Place Finisher 2009 World Figure Skating Championships
• Emily Hughes - 2006 Olympic Figure Skating Competitor and 2007 U.S. Ladies National Silver Medalist
• Kimmie Meissner - 2006 World Figure Skating Champion and 2007 U.S. National Figure Skating Champion
• Mirai Nagasu - 2008 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating Champion
• Ashley Wagner - 2008 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating Bronze Medalist
