and Katarina Witt were the favorites to win the 1988 Olympic Figure Skating title. A rivalry between the two skaters was publicized and called the "Battle of the Carmens," since each skater performed to music from the opera Carmen.
Early Professional Career:
Beginning in 1988, Katarina Witt skated in an ice show with 1988 Men's Olympic Figure Skating Champion, Brian Boitano
. The show was called "Witt and Boitano Skating." She then skated in Holiday on Ice.
She also starred in the film "Carmen on Ice."
1994 Olympic Comeback:
In 1994, Katarina Witt competed again in the Olympics since the International Skating Union
relaxed the rules and allowed professionals to be eligible to compete in official figure skating events. She placed 7th at that Olympics.
Witt was known for not only being beautiful, but sexy. In 1998, she posed nude for Playboy Magazine.
Katarina Witt's beauty, charisma, and sex appeal opened up doors for her to appear in several movies.
Witt received an Emmy Award for her role in this film Carmen on Ice.
After her Olympic comeback in 1994, she received The Goldene Kamera award which is a German television award.
In 1995, she was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame. She has been voted as the "Favorite Female Skater of the Century."
