Betty Callaway is the figure skating coach that guided Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean
to Olympic ice dance gold. The legendary Bolero free dance
done by Torvill and Dean at the 1984 Winter Olympics is considered one of the greatest moments in ice skating history.
She taught other world and Olympic skaters. In 1968, Callaway became the national figure skating coach for Germany. Her students, Erich and Angelika Buck, won the European ice dance title in 1972.
She also coached Hungarian ice dancers Kristina Regoeczy and Andras Sallay who won the silver medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and the 1980 World ice dance title. Callaway began coaching Torvill and Dean around that time.
