Definition: A progressive is a figure skating step done in ice dancing. The progressive is done as a sequence of progressive strokes and is executed on a curve.

A forward progressive and a forward crossover have some similarities, but are different steps. In a crossover, the new skating foot is placed over the old skating foot. In a progressive, the new skating foot must be first placed next to the skating foot and then should slide over the old skating foot.

Also Known As: Progressives are sometimes called runs. Sometimes progressive runs are done in a series of three steps: forward outside-forward inside-forward outside.
Examples: A progressive can be done either forward or backward.
