Axel Lift

By Jo Ann Schneider Farris, About.com

Definition: The axel lift is a pair skating move where the male figure skater lifts the lady by first putting one hand under her armpit and the female skater pushes down on the male's shoulder and fully extends her arm. The lady jumps in the air from a forward outside edge and the man lifts her and rotates her above his head for one and one-half revolutions. She lands on the back outside edge of the skate that was not used during the take-off.
Examples: Usually the legs of the lady are split in the air when the axel lift is performed.
