Backspin

Definition: If a figure skater spins in the counter-clockwise direction, the backspin is done on a right back outside edge. If the skater spins in the clockwise direction, the backspin is on the left back outside edge.

Also Known As: Back Scratch Spin
Alternate Spellings: Back Spin or back spin
Examples: Almost all jumps in figure skating are done in a back spin position. All ice skaters must master a back spin before attempting the axel jump or double jumps.
