Definition: The International Skating Union (ISU) is the international governing body for figure skating and speed skating.
Also Known As: ISU
Examples: Figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating, and short track speed skating are the ice skating sports that the ISU governs.

The International Skating Union is the oldest governing international winter sport federation. The ISU organization was founded in Scheveningen, The Netherlands in 1892. The ISU's offices are in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The most prestigious figure skating events are hosted by the ISU. The World Figure Skating Championships is an ISU event. The International Skating Union also hosts the Four Continents Championships and the Grand Prix of Figure Skating.
