Learn How to Ice Skate:
The
U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program is the official learn-to-skate program for figure skating in the United States. Olympic ice skating dreams begin with
U.S. Figure Skating's Basic Skills Program.
Curriculum:
The Basic Skills Program curriculum includes basic ice skating skills, free skating,
pair skating,
ice dancing,
synchronized skating,
choreography,
speed skating, and skating skills for ice hockey.
How to Register:
Those interested in participating in U.S. Figure Skating Skills should contact their local ice arena to inquire about Basic Skills
group skating classes, registration, and the cost of skating lessons.
Instructional DVD:
The U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills DVD teaches many of the skating skills that are covered in U.S. Figure Skating's Basic Skills program, including
spins, turns, and
jumps. The DVD is in 3D animation and can be purchased online through the
U.S. Figure Skating website.
Awards:
Basic Skills skaters receive a record book with stickers and a member patch and year patch. As skaters advance, certificates and badges are awarded to participants.
Basic Skills Competitions:
The purpose of a Basic Skills competitions is to provide fun and positive competitive figure skating experiences. Opportunities to compete in basic skills figure skating competitions are available for all ages and levels of skaters.
Bridge Program:
Those interested in becoming advanced competitive figure skaters have the opportunity to be introduced to all that is involved in
becoming a figure skater through U.S. Figure Skating's Basic Skills Bridge Program. The program teaches figure skating skills at a fast pace in a group lesson format.
