Video About the History of Russian Pair Skating

Soviet Pair Skating History Video

From Jo Ann Schneider Farris, About.com

Added on Nov 8 2007

This video, made in the 1970s, shows how young children were chosen in the Soviet Union and molded into pair skaters. The background language is Russian. Even though most viewers can't understand the language spoken in this documentary, this film shows so much action, that it is easy to guess what is being talked about. First very young children audition. Then they try ice skating out on their own. Those who are chosen begin a training schedule and are eventually matched with young pair partners. As time passes, much work occurs inside an indoor ice arena, but also outdoors. A long road is ahead, but eventually a young child can become a pair skater and perhaps a champion.
