Bend the knees. Push the knees over the toes. The blades should be on inside edges.

Once the knees bend and pressure is applied to the front of the skate, and if the blades are on the correct inside edges, the skater will find himself gliding backward a bit. The weight on the skater's feet should move from the front of the skate to the middle of the blade.
