The Ice Follies of 1939's is a typical old MGM Hollywood movie, but the film also includes figure skaters from the real Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies. Those interested in ice skating show history will especially enjoy seeing the film. Viewers should know that James Stewart and Joan Crawford don't actually do any skating. The story is really about their romance.
is a clever and a funny satire on the world of figure skating. It is told in a mock documentary style. The makers of On Edge
do understand the world of figure skating because all of the characters and the situations shown really do exist. All the stereotypes of the figure skating world are included in the movie. The movie is rated R and has some content that is not appropriate for young figure skaters.
Snow White and the Three Stooges was a way for Carol Heiss
, the 1960 Olympic Figure Skating Champion, to make her movie debut. Heiss is Snow White on figure skates. Instead of Seven Dwarfs, the Three Stooges come to Snow White's aid. The ice skating scenes are enjoyable to watch. Olympic Champion, Carol Heiss, skates very fast and does jumps and spins in both directions. She performs a double Axel
and also sings.

Anyone interested in ice skating history will learn something from this documentary. After winning the Olympics in 1936, Sonja Henie became a movie star. She was one of Hollywood's most popular stars. She appeared in ten films. Some of those films are available on DVD.
This is a very cute Disney movie. A talented teenage figure skater dreams of being a champion and is discovered by a famous Russian skating coach. She does not have enough money to train with this famous coach who is associated with a private boarding school, but she has the opportunity to get a hockey scholarship so she can figure skate. She accepts the scholarship and learns to play hockey. She changes in the process. She learns about teamwork and making friends by playing hockey.

The narrator is the pond's aging caretaker, "Scootch" (Scott Hamilton). "The Zamboni Man" song introduces Scootch. He drives the Zamboni and talks about how the town was named after Grandpa Albert, a champion skater. Grandpa Albert built his home right on the pond's edge and taught his grand-daughter, Kate, how to skate.
The story begins as Kate (Ekaterina Gordeeva) and daughter Lizzie (Dana Grinkov) return to Albert's Pond. Kate is returning to Albert's Pond with her daughter, Lizzie, after her husband has died.
Kate takes to the ice again with Lizzie and a beautiful and heartwarming story unfolds.
On Thin Ice: The Tai Babilonia Story

This is a made-for-TV movie. It tells the story of Olympic figure skater Tai Babilonia. Tai was paired up with Randy Gardner as a child. In 1979 they won the World Pair title. Randy Gardner suffers a groin injury and is unable to compete just before they were about to perform in the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. After that, Tai and Randy had a successful professional career, but Tai was unhappy. She drinks heavily and attempts suicide. She recovers and the film ends happily.

This is a biographical drama which tells the story of Oksana Baiul who won the 1994 Winter Olympics. There is not much skating in the movie, but the story is very moving, and there is a performance by the real Oksana Baiul at the end of the movie.
This movie stars 1984 Olympic Champion Katarina Witt. This is the classic tale of Cinderella put on the ice. Katarina Witt plays a poor maid named Ella. She invites the Prince to skate with her and he falls in love with her. Then, Ella is thrown into prison since her employer's daughters become jealous. The Prince then searches in vain for the beautiful stranger, but then she miraculously appears at a ball in his palace. The pair falls in love and skates together.

RISE is a figure skating movie that honors and remembers the tragic plane crash that killed all the members of the 1961 U.S. Figure Skating Team. "Can the end of one dream give rise to another?" is RISE's message. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the terrible plane crash tragedy, on February 17, 2011, the figure skating movie, RISE, premiered in theaters all over the United States.
This story features a boy lacking self-confidence due to the fact that he stutters. A former figure skating star decides to transform a local abandoned factory into a skating rink and offers the boy a chance to skate and receive free instruction. He does learn to skate and beomes really good. He surprises his family with a pair skating performance with the rink owner's young wife at the rink's opening night. He then gets a job teaching skating and beomes confident and happy.
Blades of CourageThis is a Canadian movie. It was originally called "Skate." It is about a talented Canadian teen who loves to skate. She does well in the Canadian national championship, and gets to go to the World Figure Skating Championship. The Canadian Skating Federation gives her a chance to train with a top coach, but the coach is very strict and ruins her. She returns home defeated, but eventually gets back on the ice and competes and performs again.
