Figure skating must be seen and videos make it possible for ice skaters, figure skating fans, and those who like to ice skate to see skating in action. This section includes different videos that show skaters doing individual figure skating moves.
Video of a Figure Skater Doing Spirals
This short video was submitted directly to About.com. It shows a figure skater doing some spirals. A spiral or arabesque is an ice skating move done on one foot where the free leg and back are horizontal to the ice.
Video of an Axel Jump
This video shows a figure skater doing several Axel jumps in practice and in competition.
Video of an Axel Lift
This short video clip shows a pair skating team doing an axel lift.
Video of a Backflip
The backflip is considered an illegal figure skating move. It can be done in exhibitions and in professional ice skating competitions, but the backflip will not receive credit and a skater will receive deductions (or be disqualified) if the move is performed in eligible figure skating competitions.

Video of a Death Drop
A spectacular flying spin is the death drop. The spin ends in a back sit spin position. In the death drop, the position is horizontal to the ice and the skater’s body faces towards the ice for a short second. Then, the skater lands in a back sit spin position and does a back sit spin. This video shows a figure skater demonstrating the move.

A flying sit spin is a difficult, but spectacular, figure skating move. The flying sit spin is similar to a sit spin, but the skater first jumps into the air and then lands in the sit spin position and completes a sit spin. This video shows a skater performing a good quality flying sit spin.
Debbie Weinstein Minter Does an Original Figure at the 2008 Colorado Champs
Years ago, beautiful designs were skated on clean ice in the shape of a figure eight. These complex designs were called figures and that is why Figure Skating is called FIGURE Skating. In 2008, US Figure Skating Gold Medalist, Debbie Weinstein Minter performed an original figure that included many figure skating turns, loops, and edges. This video shows her artistic and original "figure performance." She named it "Compost Heap" becuase it had a "little of everything all mixed together."

The salchow is a figure skating jump. The inventor of the salchow jump was Ulrich Salchow. This video shows him performing the jump he invented at Areveckan in 1911. Other moves such as spread eagles, turns, a spin, and a waltz jump are also included in this video.
The Ankle Buzzer Helps a Figure Skater
The Ankle Buzzer is a figure skating training aid that makes a happy and pleasant noise when ice skaters make ankle contact if they cross the feet correctly in the air as they do figure skating jumps. In this video, a figure skater does an Axel jump while wearing the Ankle Buzzer. She is convinced it helped her get her free leg in the correct position.

If a figure skater does a back outside three turn followed by a forward inside mohawk and repeats the sequence in a circle, the skater has done backward power three turns. This video shows an adult skater practing the back outside power three turns that are on the U.S. Figure Skating Juvenile Moves in the Field test.
World Record Figure Skating Spin Video
In this video, Natalia Kanounnikova sets the new Guinness World Record for fastest spin on ice skates at Rockefeller Center in New York City. The new world record is 308 revolutions per minute. This was measured with a Sport Tach figure skating training aid.
