Jeremy Abbott took Evan Lysacek's place at the 2008 World Figure Skating Championships after Lysacek withdrew due to injury.

The 2007 and 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Champion, Evan Lysacek fell just before the 2008 World Figure Skating Championships. His blade broke as he attempted a triple Axel. He hurt his forearm, elbow and shoulder. Nothing was broken, but he couldn't compete in Worlds. Jeremy Abbott, who placed fourth at the 2008 Nationals, was chosen to replace Lysacek.
