Ulrich Salchow invented the salchow jump. He first performed the
salchow at an ice skating competition in 1909.

Ulrich Salchow won the gold medal in figure skating at the Olympics in 1908. That Olympics took place in London. His Olympic gold medal was the first Olympic gold medal awarded for men's figure skating.
European Figure Skating Champion:
Ulrich Salchow won the European Figure Skating Championships nine times. He won that title in 1898, 1899, 1900, 1904, 1906, 1907, 1909, 1910, and in 1913.
International Skating Union President:
Ulrich Salchow served as the president of the International Skating Union (ISU) from 1925 through 1937.
Died in 1949:
Ulrich Salchow died when he was seventy-one years old, on April 19, 1949, in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Salchow Jump:
Ulrich Salchow will always be remembered for inventing the salchow jump. The salchow is done from the back inside
edge of one foot to the back outside edge of the other foot. A half revolution is done in the air.
