Date and Place of Birth:
Patrick Chan was born on December 31, 1990 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Family:
Chan is of Han Chinese descent. His parents were born in Hong Kong.
Began Skating:
Patrick began skating when he was five years old.
Pre-Novice, Novice, and Junior Canadian National Champion :
Patrick Chan won the Canadian pre-novice title in 2003, the novice title in 2004, and the junior title in 2005.
Competitor and Medalist - Junior World Figure Skating Championships :
In 2005, at the age of fourteen, Patrick Chan was the youngest skater to compete in the
World Junior Figure Skating Championships. Two years later, he won a silver medal at the event. His silver medal was the first time a Canadian men's skater, since 1984, had won a medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships.
Young Canadian Figure Skating Champion:
In 2008, when he was only seventeen years old, Chan won the Canadian men's figure skating title. He won the title again in 2009. Some people say he may be the youngest ice skater to win the Canadian Men's figure skating title.
Coach:
Patrick Chan is coached by Don Laws. Previously, his coach, for many years, was Osborne Colson. (Colson died in 2006.)
