Miki Ando - World and Japanese Figure Skating Champion

Ice Skating Champion:

Miki Ando won the 2007 world figure skating title. She also is the 2004 and 2005 Japanese national ladies figure skating champion and the 2004 world junior figure skating champion.

Date, Place of Birth, and Hometown:

Ando was born on December 18, 1987 in Aichi, Japan. She calls Nagoya City, Japan home.

First Quadruple Jump:

Miki Ando is the first and only woman who has landed a quadruple ice skating jump in an official figure skating competition. She landed a quadruple Salchow at the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in 2002.

Early Skating:

Miki Ando began skating when she was nine years old. Two years later, she was landing triple jumps.

Coaches and Training:

During her competitive figure skating career, Miki Ando has worked with several different coaches. In Japan, she worked with Yuko Monna. Then, she worked with and Nobuo and Kumiko Sato. In 2005, she moved her training to the United States. In the U.S., she first worked with 1960 Olympic Figure Skating Champion, Carol Heiss Jenkins. Her current coach is Nikolai Morozov. She live and trains in Hackensack, New Jersey, U.S.A.

Ando enjoys swimming, ballet, piano and calligraphy.

Favorite Skaters:

Yuka Sato, who won the 1994 world figure skating title, has always been a role model for Miki Ando. She also admires 2006 Olympic Figure Skating Champion Shizuka Arakawa.

Miki Ando's first name means "beautiful princess" in Japanese.
