So much has happened to the figure skaters who took part in the
Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, which took place in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2007. This article gives short summaries of what happened to some of the skaters who participated.
Evan Lysacek:
When
Evan Lysacek won the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in 2007, he had no idea that only three years later, he'd be the 2010 Olympic Figure Skating Champion.
Kimmie Meissner:
Kimmie Meissner was already the 2006 World Figure Skating Champion when she won Four Continents in 2007. In 2008, Meissner did not make the US Figure Skating World Team. In 2009, she withdrew from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
Joannie Rochette:
Canadian figure skater,
Joannie Rochette, won the bronze at the 2007 Four Continents Championships. In 2010, at the Vancouver Olympics, Rochette won bronze. Rochette's mother died two days before she competed in Vancouver.
Alissa Czisny:
Alissa Czisny placed 5th at the 2007 Four Continents Championships. She went on to win the US Ladies figure skating title in both 2009 and 2011. Czisny did not qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Jeffrey Buttle:
Jeffrey Buttle of Canada won silver at the 2007 Four Continents Championships. Buttle had already won bronze at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. He went on to win the world title in 2008. Buttle retired from competitive skating in 2008.
Jeremy Abbott:
Jeremy Abbott was living and training in Colorado Springs in 2007. After winning bronze at the 2007 Four Continents Championships, Abbott went on to win the men's title at the 2009, 2010, and 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. He also competed in the
2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao:
Just like Evan Lysacek, Chinese pair skaters
Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao had no idea that they would become the Olympic Pair Skating Champions in 2010. In fact, they were the first Chinese figure skaters in history to win the gold medal at a Winter Olympic Games in a figure skating event. Shen and Zhao were not married as yet when they won the 2007 Four Continents Championships. They were married in 2007 after they won the 2007 World Figure Skating Championships. They retired from competitive figure skating in 2010.
Rena Inoue and John Baldwin:
Rena Inoue and John Baldwin placed third in the 2007 Four Continents Championships. They competed after they had already made history at the 2006 U.S. National Figure Skating Championships and at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Vancouver where they became the first pair skaters to successfully complete a throw
triple Axel. Then, in 2007 and 2008, they were not able to defend their U.S. title, but they made history anyway. After their performance at "Nationals" in 2008, Baldwin went down on his knees and proposed to Rena. The couple are now parents of a baby girl born in November of 2011.
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir:
Virtue and Moir placed third at the 2007 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. At the time, they were not the Canadian Ice Dance Champions. There teammates, Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon won the Four Continents event. Just like Evan Lysacek,
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir had no idea that they would become the 2010 Olympic Ice Dance Champions.
Meryl Davis and Charlie White:
Davis and White won the U.S. Junior Dance title in 2006. When they competed in the 2007 Four Continents Championships, they were the "new kids on the block." Fellow American ice dancers,
Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto had won the silver medal in the 2006 Torino Olympics, and were favored to win. Davis and White's fourth place finish showed that the young senior team from the U.S. had promise. Like Lysacek and Virtue & Moir,
Meryl Davis and Charlie White had no idea that they'd be standing on the Olympic podium with silver medals around their necks in Vancouver.
