A Nationals With Lots of Surprises:

Most figure skating fans agree that the 2011 AT&T U.S. National Figure Skating Championships was one of the most exciting events ever. One of the reasons was that new skaters that figure skating fans never heard of appeared and skated well.

Pairs:

The highlight of the entire competition may have been Caitlin Yankowskas and John Coughlin winning the championship pairs title. Many people also enjoyed seeing 2008 and 2009 pair skating champion, Rockne Brubaker, perform with his new partner, Mary Beth Marley.

Ice Dancing:

Olympic silver medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the championship dance title. 2010's junior champions, Maia and Alex Shibutani won the silver. The new short dance was introduced. The compulsory dance phase of ice dance competitions has been eliminated for the junior and senior dance levels.

Comebacks:

Veterans Alissa Czisny and Ryan Bradley made history. Both skaters "came back" and won the championship singles titles.
