The Bottom Line

Lake Placid Elite leather figure skates are a "higher end" version of entry level figure skates. The skates can be purchased at most major discount stores and online. The affordable price may draw some buyers, but it is best to not purchase this brand of ice skates if you are really interested in becoming a figure skater. These skates will do if you plan to ice skate around an ice rink once in awhile.

Guide Review - Lake Placid Elite Leather Figure Skates

An “unwritten rule” in the ice skating world that is passed on to those new to the sport is that inexpensive boot and blade sets are not acceptable and just don't work. Anyone who "knows figure skating" is aware that figure skates must be purchased from stores that deal exclusively with figure skates and figure skating supplies.

When purchasing ice skating equipment, you really do get what you pay for. It may seem inviting to buy Lake Placid leather figure skates since the cost of the skates is low; however, "real figure skaters" would never use this boot and blade set.

The boots are made of leather, not vinyl like some of the more inexpensive ice skating sets, which makes this model of Lake Placid figure skates to be considered the higher-end "deluxe model." Also, the boot is supposed to have reinforced ankle support, but still, that support is not enough to really do most figure skating moves.

The blades are made with a a nickel plated carbon steel that is is heat-treated and edge-hardened for durability. (What that means is that the blades don't need to be sharpened often.) The boot's tongue is padded, but the padding is not as thick as the padding that is included in higher quality figure skating boots.

The skates comes in a variety of sizes, but it may be difficult to find this brand of ice skates for a male skater. Lake Placid leather white skates are easy to find, but there seems to be few of these skates available in black. The small toe pick on the blade will give new skaters some security and balance, but may not be adequate for jumping and spinning on the ice.

Using figure skates like Lake Placid Elite leather figure skates might be okay for recreational skaters that only skate once in awhile, but those interested in figure skating should consider paying more money for a higher quality skate set.
