A Basic Figure Skating Spin Is the Forward Scratch Spin

One of the most basic spins figure skaters do is the forward scratch spin. During that spin, the free foot and free leg crosses over the skating leg. Sometimes the skater seems to almost become a blur since a scratch spin can spin so fast.

it’s called a forward spin on ice because the entry is a forward outside edge, but in reality one does a 3-turn before spinning on a back inside edge.

Roller edges are much more pronounced and one can easily see the quick change from fo to bi spin. Similarly in camels and sitsspins.

What I do not see anymore is not the scratch spin but the El spin for 3 rotatiosn and drop the free leg into a crossfoot spin. Xfoots are usually done on back outside edges on Ice.
