A week ago, I joined Facebook. Less than 24 hours later, I received "Friend Requests" from figure skating friends from different years of my life. I received invitations from childhood skating friends, ice dancing friends, friends from my early days of coaching figure skating, friends from the days when I directed skating programs, friends who I met through my own children's skating, and from friends I've met in more recent years through my writing about skating. I also heard from former skating students and their parents, and I heard from former adult skating students. I heard from parents of my children's skating friends, and I heard from young figure skaters of today. What a great reunion it has been!
What amazes me is that friends from my childhood as a skater know figure skating friends I have made in my adult life and in recent years. It seems that figure skaters have a link that only other figure skaters understand. Our link as skaters seems to cross every barrier. The ice skating world is certainly a connected skating world!
