Young Figure Skaters Survive Hurricane Ike Storm and Win Gold

I had the honor of meeting pair skaters Emily Chan and J. Daniel Vallecilla at the 2008 Pikes Peak Classic for Pairs and Dance competition which was hosted by the Broadmoor Skating Club and the Colorado Springs World Arena this past weekend. The children and their families and coaches were seriously affected by the Hurricane Ike storm. Both families went without electricity or water, and there was no ice time for nearly two weeks. Almost all the ice rinks in the Houston area were closed. Despite the obstacles, the team won a gold medal at the event.
