Who in Figure Skating Has Touched Your Life?

Friday September 19, 2008
Howie Harrold
My first ice dance coach was a man named Howie Harrold. He died in a tragic accident when I was only thirteen years old. Howie was a former roller skater who had switched to ice. He was a very popular figure skating coach. His ice skating students just loved him, and he taught several ice dance teams. Lives changed because of his death. Some of his skating students left the sport. Others moved on to different coaches. I continued to ice dance. Memories of Howie Harrold stayed with me, but sometimes I wondered if my life would have been different if he had lived.

Is there someone in figure skating that has touched you? Share your stories.
