Roy Wagelein, one of U.S. Figure Skating's past Olympians, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. He was a graduate of the famous
Hollywood Professional School, a private school especially geared for children in the arts and entertainment industries.
The school is part of the
history of figure skating in the United States since some of the school's figure skating alumni became very famous.
Peggy Fleming is the school's most famous figure skating graduate, but other World and Olympic competitors, such as Wagelein, also attended Hollywood Professional School.
I am a graduate of Hollywood Professional School. The school made it possible for me to skate more hours each day and did work around my intense training schedule. I can also boast that I sat next to movie star (to be), Melanie Griffith, in history class and I got in trouble with MacKenzie Phillips (from "One Day at a Time") for crossing Hollywood Boulevard during school hours!
