The Bielmann Really Is a Cool Figure Skating Move

Friday April 4, 2008

The Bielmann position is named after champion Swiss figure skater Denise Biellmann who originated the move. This position takes quite a bit of stretching. The skater holds his or her skate blade and pulls the leg way back up over the head. The legs are completely split, but the knee of the free leg is bent. Although Dick Button has mentioned he grows tired of seeing skaters stretch free legs above heads while holding onto blades, most figure skating fans would agree that the Bielmann is a "very cool" ice skating move!
