During one of the dance events at the recent U.S. National Figure Skating Championships, IceNetwork.com's commentator Nancy Kerrigan, brought attention to 2007 U.S. National Novice Champions Maia and Alex Shibutani's height difference. That comment got me thinking that most elite ice dancers of today are beautiful and tall. Can ice dancers be short?
Everyone knows that U.S. ice dancer, Tanith Belbin, is not only a beauty, but she is also very tall. The dancers competing at international events wear the most beautiful outfits and sometimes it seems like ice dancing events are more like beauty pageants. Has anyone ever heard of a short Miss America? Is competitive ice dancing only for tall people?

Meryl Davis isn’t exactly a giant and she is an excellent ice dancer. The Shibutani’s SP at Nationals this year was a masterpiece.
BUT….Meryl Davis is NOT short….
Of course. I’m surprised that you asked. Tall women/girls with long legs and big boobs are 60% of the way to winning. All they have to do is stay off the floor and keep smiling. The shorter teams have to push like mad to get around the ice and look “active”. This isn’t fair but it’s reality.
