An Open Letter to the President of the ISU

Sonia Bianchetti Garbato I recently came across a letter written to International Skating Union President, Ottavio Cinquanta. The letter is written by Sonia Bianchetti Garbato. She is a former ISU official who has written several articles contesting the validity of the new system of judging figure skating.

In her letter, Sonia Bianchetti addresses many concerns. She talks about the not so bright future of coverage of skating on television and she also points out that figure skating is losing its popularity among the masses. She shares her concerns regarding the new judging system and explains how it has changed the sport.

"Figure skating is dying before our eyes. To say that the sport is sick and in need of emergency treatment before it's too late is as obvious as saying that when it rains, it is necessary to open an umbrella.

The unbelievably low standard of skating, with very few exceptions, at all the 2006 Grand Prix events, including the final in St. Petersburg, and at the European Championships last week in Warsaw, is an alert that can no longer be ignored by the International Skating Union.
