New Figure Skating Champions Crowned at U.S. Nationals
The 2007 United States Figure Skating Championships is over. It was a very exciting competition. New champions have been crowned in three of the senior events.
Evan Lysacek skated the performance of his life to win the men's title and dethroned three-time U.S. Champion Johnny Weir. Kimmie Meissner, the 2006 World Figure Skating Champion, was expected to win, and is now the reigning U.S. Ladies Champion. Brooke Castile and Ben Okolski surprised everyone by winning the pairs event. Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto won the ice dance title for the fourth time.

In my mind, the best performance of the night was Alissa Czisny. Kimmie was lackluster and barely held onto her crown when Emily fell, but if Alissa had just a little more difficulty in her routine, she’d be the champ now, with the performance she gave. I think Alissa’s time has finally come: watch out for her, Kim & Em.
In the Juniors, Caroline Zhang may have been upset this time (finishing second to Mirai Nagasu,) but I’m betting that when Zhang goes Senior she’ll dominate the way Kwan did. Zhang is an incredible talent with appealing charisma.
I agree with all of your comments. I met Zhang last year and she has a degree of maturity as well as articulateness that far exceeds her age.
Alissa needs to believe in herself and become more consistent with her jumps. However, she is a joy to watch
