Review of "Frozen in Time - The Enduring Legacy of the 1961 U.S. Figure Skating Team"

Saturday December 30, 2006
Frozen in Time
In early 1961, the entire U.S. Figure Skating team was killed in a plane crash on their way to the World Figure Skating Championships. I've known about that plane crash ever since I began to skate. Memorial plaques, trophies, and photos are in ice arenas all over the country. Even though I knew of this horrible tragedy, I did not know much about the people. Now, I know them because I just finished reading Frozen in Time, a book written by Nikki Nichols.

Although the book made me very sad, I really enjoyed reading it. Now, I can put names on the faces I've seen in the photo of the entire team boarding the plane. I know what led up to each person being there. This book should be made into a movie. The skaters and their families and friends have truly been "frozen in time" and deserve to be remembered by the world. I also wonder what the figure skating world would be like now if these people had lived.
