Figure Skating Might Need a Little "Tonya and Nancy"

The "Tonya Harding-Nancy Kerrigan" incident did give figure skating a boost and a "new boost" is needed. Maybe figure skating needs a new scandal? Recently, there has been news that figure skating is losing its popular TV ratings and there have been rumors that U.S. Figure Skating is working hard to keep figure skating on television.

At one time, viewers were grateful for the one hour each year devoted to the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships on television. The program was aired late Saturday afternoon. Figure skating fans had to watch skiing between figure skating performances. Today, we can watch figure skating on television almost every weekend and sometimes figure skating is given a prime-time slot. It took a long time for figure skating to get so much time on TV. I do hope to see something happen that can keep figure skating in the limelight.
