Falling is Fun!

Falling is Fun!

Tonight I taught a group ice skating lesson to a group of young beginning skaters. I reminded the children that "Falling is Fun!" I also told the new young figure skaters that falling on the ice means learning is taking place. Skaters that don't fall once in awhile will never improve.

So, next time you go ice skating, remind yourself that if you are going to skate, you are going to fall. If you do fall, SMILE and remind yourself that "Falling is Fun!"

Do you have a story to share about the first time you fell on ice skates? Please share your experience in the comment section of this post.

I started skating again a few years ago after a break of about 20 years. To my dismay I’d forgotten how to do it and lost all my confidence. My hubby was subjected to the painful sight of me clinging to the rail for about three circuits. I then moved away to clear another nervous beginner and found myself somehow sat on the ice. To my surprise it didn’t hurt that much so I thought if thats the worse can happen why not risk it without barrier. I slowly and cautiously got up and set off on my own and after a few more circuits got back into my stride. By then, needless to say hubby dearest had long since got bored and gone for a hot drink so he missed my triumphal finish. I still fall now but its no big deal. That first fall ironically restored my self confidence.

3 years ago I broke a little bone in my palm while ice skating, because of some kid that suddenly appeared in front of me. he was skating trough the whole rink and didnt know how to stop, and the only thing I could do was to fall before I bump into him (Im not really skilled just so you know..). well, the kid was saved and my hand was completely fine after just two weeks, but ever since then I refused to go on the ice.

And last winter I finnaly agreed on going ice skating with my friends. I was scared as hell and they had to push me on ice. I skated a few circles along the rail and then wanted to escape, and here comes the epic moment – I fell. at first i started moaning in great pain, and then i realized there was no pain actually. later on I was skating almost everyday untill they closed the ice rink when spring came.

it took me two years to just get ride of this stupid fear. God, I’m pathetic XD
