Regionals Are Here!
Do you remember in the skating movie "Ice Princess" that the heroine qualified and competed in a regional ice skating event? The movie did show some of the excitement of a skating competition that is important to figure skaters.
During the month of October, real figure skaters of all ages and levels are competing in regional competitions all over the United States. High level figure skaters qualify for the United States National Figure Skating Championships by placing in the top four at a regional and then again in the top four at a sectional.
Regional competitions also hold non-qualifying events. These events give lower level skaters an experience at participating at a regional, but skaters participating in non-qualifyiing events do not advance to sectionals or nationals.
