The Figure Skating "Season"

Tuesday September 12, 2006

Sometime in the winter months figure skating fans turn on their televisions and watch the top figure skaters compete in the United States National Figure Skating Championships. Shortly afterwards, the World Championships take place.

What viewers may not know is that the figure skating competition season begins much earlier. Figure skaters from all over the country train all year long to be in the best shape for qualifying competitions that begin in the fall.

I've been told that since figure skating legend Michelle Kwan didn't compete in 2005-06, that if she did compete in 2006-07, that she'd have to compete in a regional and a sectional once again to qualify for Nationals!
