Placing Second to a Book?

Saturday August 5, 2006
That BOOK Beat Me Again!

Did you know that even if one person enters a skating event, that he or she can place second?

Ice Skating Institute holds many recreational figure skating competitions.  When only one skater enters an event, the skater competes against a standard set by the ISI Rulebook.

A skater is really good when he or she comes in first when competing against the ISI Rulebook. If a skater places second to the book, there are things to improve.

Figure Skating Star and Comedian, Dan Hollander says the following about his experience of competing "against the book":

"I was the short cute kid who had nobody to compete against except the dreaded Ice Skating Institute Rulebook...which I placed Second to all the time! Grrrr...I always imagined there would be this book on the first place podium looking down, laughing at me."
