Skate Bags Are Changing Styles

Thursday June 29, 2006
A Zuca Bag

If you've noticed, things are always changing in the way skaters carry their skates.

In olden times skates were carried over the shoulder hanging by their laces. Then came the skate bags.

At first these were small, but then they got larger. When I was a child they looked much like luggage, and a neighbor who saw our family continually coming in and out of our home with the bags, once inquired when it was that we would be finished moving in.

Then the bags progressed to backpacks and on and on. I've seen skaters use suitcases, bowling bags, duffle bags, athletic bags, and rolling soft and hard suitcases to bring their skates and supplies to the rink.

The latest seen at recent figure skating competitions is a rolling bag that has a built in seat. It is called a Zuca Bag.

What's next?
